Porsche 911 (993) — Options & Equipment

The Porsche 911 (993) was offered for the 1995–1998 model years. This page documents 68 equipment codes across 11 body styles for the United States market, grouped into 11 categories. Select a body style at left to see its specific options and standard equipment. “No charge” marks no-cost equipment and “—” marks an option whose period price has not yet been sourced. Showing 1996 prices: “Not offered” marks equipment that wasn’t on that year’s order sheet, which is different from a price we haven’t sourced.

Background

The 993 was the final 911 with an air-cooled engine, which fixes its position in the model's history regardless of anything else about it. Its most consequential change was at the back: a multi-link rear axle replaced the semi-trailing arms the 911 had used since 1963.

The 3.6-litre flat-six continued, now with a six-speed manual gearbox. The Turbo of 1995 was the first 911 Turbo with two turbochargers and the first with all-wheel drive as standard, while the GT2 was built rear-driven for competition homologation.

The Targa returned for 1996 in a new form, replacing the removable panel and roll hoop with a glass roof that retracted over the rear window — an arrangement later generations reused.
