The Porsche 911 (F-Series) was offered for the 1965–1973 model years. This page documents 64 equipment codes across 11 body styles for the United States market, grouped into 10 categories. Select a body style at left to see its specific options and standard equipment. “No charge” marks no-cost equipment and “—” marks an option whose period price has not yet been sourced.

Background

The 911 replaced the four-cylinder 356 and was shown at the 1963 Frankfurt motor show as the 901. Peugeot held a French trademark covering three-digit model names with a zero in the middle, so the car entered production in 1964 as the 911. The layout settled on here — an air-cooled flat-six mounted behind the rear axle, driving the rear wheels — carried through every generation until 1998.

Displacement grew across the run: 2.0 litres at launch, 2.2 from 1970 and 2.4 from 1972. From 1968 Porsche separated specification levels with the letters T, E and S in ascending order, each offered as a coupé or as a Targa, a body style introduced in 1967 with a fixed roll hoop and a removable roof panel. The Carrera RS 2.7 of 1973 was built to homologate the car for competition.

“F-series” is collectors' shorthand rather than a Porsche marketing name. Porsche identified model years internally by letter, and that letter has come to stand for the whole pre-1974 range — the cars built before US regulation required raised impact bumpers.
